Huskies Ink Five Athletes With Top-5 Performances

The University of Connecticut women’s track and field team competed at the 18th annual Dr. Sander Invitational in New York City on Friday, earning a few runner-up honors and multiple top-10 performances.

Sophomore Divine Oladipo captured the silver medal in the shot put. In her final throw of the meet, Oladipo separated herself from the pack and out matched the third place finisher by nearly two meters.

The Huskies dominated the weight throw, recording three of the top-5 spots in the event. Sophomore Chanelle Botsis and Amaris Blount claimed second and third in the weight throw posting throws of 17.92M and 17.89M, respectively, while freshman Kelli Thomas (fifth place) threw a distance of 17.42M.

Senior Katie Foley and Danielle Jordan each notched a fifth place finish in their respective events- Foley (1:15.57) in the 500M and Jordan (10:08.81) in the 3000M. Triple jumper Gabrielle Gavalas added another fifth place performance with a hop, skip and a jump of 11.26M.

The Huskies garnered a handful of top-10 finishes on the day. In the sprints, Kat Surin claimed eighth in the 200M dash with a burst of 25.33.

In the middle distance events, Susan Aneno (4:57.14) recorded an eighth place finish in the 1Mile, while Lindsay Kane’s time of 3:01.62 in the 1000M was good for 10th overall. Teammate Mackenzie Pias put on a strong showing in the 3000M, notching a 10th overall finish with a time of 10:30.60.
