STATE COLLEGE, Penn. – The University of Connecticut women’s track and field team competed at the Penn State National this weekend. The Huskies performed well in the field events, with the jumpers highlighting the performances.
Natasha McLaren and Sarah Bowens led the effort in the field events. McLaren posted a second place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.79m (5-10.50). Bowens grabbed second place in the long jump with a 5.85M (19-02.50) leap.
Melodee Riley tied for seventh in the long jump with 5.16M (18-05.00). She also led the way for Connecticut in the triple jump, recording a 12.12m (39-09.25) leap good for seventh place. Brittany Power added an 11.66m (38-03.25) finish for 15th place while Sarah Bowens captured 16th place with 11.64m (38-02.25).
In the 400 meter dash Celina Emerson grabbed the bronze medal in a time of 54.01. The 4x400 meter relay team of Celina Emerson, Faith Dismuke, Tiffany Daley, and Nyanka Joseph finished third in 3:41.27.
"The second day of PSU. National the team showed great fortitude and the kind of competitive spirit that we will need in a few weeks at the AAC Conference Championship," said associate head coach Clive Terrelonge. "I am proud of their will to compete at this point of the season"
The Huskies will travel to New York City next weekend for the New Balance Collegiate meet on Feb. 7-8.
