The University of Connecticut women’s track and field relay team won its third straight distance medley relay title with a record-breaking performance on day one of the American Conference Indoor Championship on Friday night. The Huskies currently sit in fourth-place (23) points, trailing conference leader Cincinnati (54) with one day of competition left.

The relay team of Susan Aneno, Kristina Cherrington, Katie Foley and Mia Nahom smashed the conference record in the distance medley with a time of 11:29.93. UConn crossed the finish line more than seven seconds ahead of its next competition as they stood atop the podium in record breaking fashion.

Nahom was busy on day one, as the freshman also competed in the one mile qualifier. Nahom (5:01.36) headlines a group of Huskies who will compete on Saturday in the finals of the one mile.

Aneno will join Nahom in a finals run on Saturday for a chance to claim the 800m title. In the qualifying race, Aneno topped two-time defending conference champion, UCF’s Rosie Chamberlain’s time at 2:11.39 in the 800-meter run. It should be a tight final tomorrow with five athletes running within the 2:11 mark.

The 2018 Indoor Track and Field Championships conclude Saturday (Feb. 24) starting at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The entirety of Day Two will be streamed live on the American Digital Network and any information can be found the Championship Central page at
