RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Brigitte Mania led the Huskies with a second place finish in the 1500 meter run invitational section on day one at the Raleigh Relays. Competition picks back up early again on Saturday morning with the 10,000m run kicking off the day at 9:40am.
Mania supplied the Huskies with their highest finish on the day, finishing the 1500 meter run in 4:21.46 to grab second place. Laura Williamson finished the 1500m in 4:35.97 and Emily Howard posted a 4:42.84 showing.
Grabbing a bronze medal for Connecticut was Saija Bikanova, who grabbed third place in the college division of the long jump with a leap of 5.62M. Bikanova also grabbed ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.70M posted a 12.51m throw in the shot put.
Emily Durgin captured sixth in her heat of the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:57.04. Teammates Lauren Sara and Abby Mace finished in 16:43.86 and 17:32.59, respectively. Representing the Huskies in the 400 meter dash was Nyanka Joseph, who took home eleventh place with a 55.37 effort.
Chantal Scott competed in the 100 meter hurdles, placing 19th in 14.45. In the long jump invitational, Melodee Riley finished with a 5.23m effort to grab 21st place.
Also competing for UConn on Friday was Deysha Smith-Jenkins in the 100m dash. Smith-Jenkins finished the preliminary round in 12.09. Distance runner Lisa Zimmer concluded the day in 25th place in the 1500 meter College division with a time of 4:43.55.
