Flowers posted first and third place finishes at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – Victoria Flowers led the Huskies in their outdoor opener at the Raleigh Relays this weekend where she notched first and third place performances. Just as she did in indoor season, the senior Flowers started the outdoor season with a first place finish in the shot put with a toss of 15.99 meters. She added a third place finish in the hammer with a hurl of 59.57m.
On the track, the Huskies saw their distance runners excel with Lauren Sara racing to a second place finish in the 10,000 meter run as she crossed the finish line in 33:48.48. Shauna McNiff notched a top-ten finish in the 1,500m run with a seventh place finish in 4:22.15, while Allison Lasnicki took sixth in the 5,000m (16:16.15).
Freshman Julia Zrinyi placed seventh in the 800 meter invitational with a time of 2:08.50.
Connecticut had two Huskies finish in the top-five of the high jump on Friday with its All-American duo of Ilva Bikanova and Natasha Mclaren leading the way in second (1.75m) and fourth (1.75m) place, respectively.
Freshman Melodee Riley was outstanding in her first collegiate outdoor meet taking second place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.74m.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, April 6 when they host their lone home meet of the year. The meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
