Huskies Honor Six Seniors At Final Home Meet Of 2012

Senior Meghan Cunningham takes first in the 1,500m run.

STORRS, Conn. (April 3, 2012) – The Huskies hosted their final home meet of the 2012 campaign on Saturday at George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. Connecticut honored its six seniors, Meghan Cunningham, Courtney Dinnan, Shelby Donahue, Danika Ham, Christine Vogel and Heather Wilson. UConn posted 20 top-five marks at their UConn All-Region meet.

Shortly before being honored for her four-year career at UConn, senior Danika Ham (Somersworth, N.H.) placed second in the javelin with a toss of 46.68m which is an automatic qualifier for the ECAC Championships.

In the hammer throw, three-time All-American Victoria Flowers (Providence, R.I.) automatically qualified for the ECAC’s and took second place with her throw of 55.76m. Flowers added another first place title to her career with an ECAC qualifying mark of 15.45 meters in the shot put.

Junior high jumper Jasmine Cribb (Naugatuck, Conn.) took first place in the high jump with a leap of 1.73m which automatically qualifies the junior for ECAC’s.

On the track, senior Meghan Cunningham (Simsbury, Conn.) claimed first place in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:32.47, while junior Allison Cooper (Portland, Conn.) took third (4:35.26), senior Courtney Dinnan (Hamden, Conn.) in fifth (4:38.84) and Shelby Donahue in sixth (4:39.52).

Sophomore Madalayne Smith (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) placed second in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.12 as teammate Chantal Scott (Raleigh, N.C.) finished fourth in 15.01. In the 100m dash, freshman Brianna Allen (Windsor, Conn.) captured third place in a time of 12.18 in a close race that had her crossing the finish line head-to-head with Rhode Island’s Jennifer Christian.

Connecticut had seven Huskies compete in the 800m run with junior Ana Groff (Orlando, Fla.) taking the title following a 2:12.40 performance. In second place was freshman Stephanie Ellis (Gardner, Mass.) in 2:21.71, Donahue in fourth (2:22.54), Vogel in fifth (2:24.22), freshman Terra Briody in sixth (2:24.26), Cooper finished eighth (2:25.74) and sophomore Cassandra Goutos concluded the race 10th in 2:26.79.

The Huskies grabbed the top three seats in the 400 meter dash with Tiffany Daley (Northborough, Mass.) taking first in 56.18 followed by junior Brigitte Mania (Flemington, N.J.) in second (56.14) and senior Heather Wilson (Homer, N.Y.) in third (57.53).

All-American Celina Emerson (Newark, Del.) automatically qualified for the ECAC Championships with her first place finish in Saturday’s 200 meter dash posting a mark of 24.41. Shortly behind Emerson was Brianna Allen in third place with a time of 24.90.

To conclude the UConn All-Region Meet, the Husky 4x400 meter relay squad of Tiffany Daley, Celina Emerson, Brigitte Mania and Ana Groff took home first place in 3:45.99 to automatically qualify for the ECAC Championships.

Meanwhile, on Friday the Huskies sent Cunningham and freshman Lindsay Crevoiserat to the Princeton Sam Howell Invite where the two student-athletes posted impressive times. Cunningham claimed fourth in the 3,000m steeple with a time of 10:24.68, while Crevoiserat added another crown to her young career with a title in the 5,000m run in 16:15.49.
