PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Huskies competed in the 118th Penn Relays at the world-famous Franklin Field and sent athletes to the Brown Invite on Sunday afternoon. Overall, it was a successful weekend for the Huskies with two athletes taking home fifth place in their respective events at the Penn Relays, while Connecticut posted seven top-five performances in Rhode Island.
Senior Heather Wilson and freshman Lindsay Crevoiserat competed in the Olympic Development Women's Mile Run on Saturday at the Penn Relays. Wilson concluded the race in fifth after crossing the finish line in 4:40.92 and Crevoiserat was 12th in 4:44.24.
In the College Women's High Jump Championship All-American Natasha McLaren finished fifth with a leap of 1.80m (5-10.75).
Meanwhile, at the Brown Invite senior Meghan Cunningham claimed second place in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.60 before four Huskies conquered spots 3-6 in the 1,500m race. Junior Courtney Dinnan led the crew with a third place finish in 4:35.69, senior Shelby Donahue came in fourth (4:36.22), junior Allison Cooper was fifth (4:37.08) and sophomore Stephanie Ellis was sixth (4:38.43). Kim Moran concluded the 5,000m run in 17:51.56 for a silver medal. In the 100m hurdles, sophomore Chantal Scott was second in 14.64.
Senior Danika Ham was the lone senior to compete in a field event at the Brown Invite for UConn as she concluded the event third with a throw of 39.51m.
The Huskies will begin the 2012 outdoor championship season next week when they travel to Tampa, Fla. for the BIG EAST Championships beginning on Monday, May 4.
