JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- All-American Heather Wilson (Homer, N.Y.) led the UConn women’s track and field squad on Friday at Hodges Stadium with a seventh (2:05.35) place finish in the quarterfinals of the 800 meter race to advance the senior to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6.
The top 12 of each event will advance to the Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6.
Also on the track was sophomore Madalayne Smith (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) who concluded the 100 meter hurdles 36th with a time of 13.68, while junior Ana Groff (Orlando, Fla.) posted a time of 2:09.03 for the 20th seat in the 800m run.
All-American Celina Emerson (Newark, Del.) crossed the finish line 15th in the 400m dash on Friday with a time of 53.10 which does not allow the sophomore to travel to Des Moines.
Sophomore Natasha McLaren (Stroudsburg, Pa.) was the only Husky competing in a field event on Friday for UConn where she finished 15th in the high jump. Her leap of 1.77m (5-9 3/4) does not advance the indoor All-American to Iowa for the finals.
On Saturday, All-American Victoria Flowers will look to guarantee an opportunity to add another All-America title to her name as she competes in the hammer throw at 2 p.m. On the track, the Huskies will have two athletes (Allison Lasnicki and Lindsay Crevoiserat) race in the 5,000m run at 8:45 p.m.
