STORRS, Conn.- Senior All-American Victoria Flowers (Providence, R.I.) was named the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. Flowers led UConn to a victory at the Armory in New York, N.Y. on Saturday, January 12 with victories in the shot put and the weight throw. UConn routed the competition at the Armory, defeating the second-place finisher, Penn, by 98.5 points.
Flowers' toss in the shot put of 16.43m (53' 11") ranks second in the BIG EAST and 9th in the nation this season. In the weight throw, her distance of 20.84m (68' 4 1/2") ranks her first in the BIG EAST and third in the nation.
"Victoria opened with a commanding performance in both events. The best piece to this is regardless of the great faith and trust I have in her; she has complete belief in herself," stated head coach Bill Morgan. "Her confidence has been on point, her attention to details is uncompromised and it's going to be an exciting season."
Flowers and the Huskies return to action on Friday, January 18, at the Great Dane Classic.
