STORSS, Conn. – Susan Aneno of the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team ran a national qualifying time in the 800m race on Saturday afternoon at the Scarlet and White Invitational.
“Today our team put together a strong performance in every aspect,” aid Head Coach JJ Clark. “We had 15 runners turn in personal best performances on the day and a handful of athletes finish in the Top-10. I am proud of the team for their excellence today.”
Aneno claimed first in the 800m with a time of 2:05:82, while teammate Katie Foley placed sixth in the event with a time of 2:10.7.
The 4x400m relay team made up of Kristina Cherrington, Kat Surin, Foley and Aneno ran their way into the UConn Indoor Track and Field Record Book on Saturday evening. Their time of 3:40.31 ranks third in indoor program history and was good enough for a fourth place finish in the meet.
Connecticut claimed fourth in the 60m hurdles after Tia Strackman blasted through the finish line with a time of 8.73. Continuing in the sprints, Kat Surin turned in a sixth place finish in the 400m dash with a performance of 54.86, good for sixth overall.
Mia Nahom continued her impressive freshman campaign with a personal best time of 4:46.51 in the mile. Her performance was good for seventh overall in the event.
The Huskies showed they are a top contender in the region with an impressive showing in the field events. Connecticut’s Laurel Bailey cleared the bar at 3.66m in the pole vault. Sierra Cameron rounded out the UConn performers with a 13th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.27m.
