STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s track and field squad is coming off a second place finish at last weekend’s BIG EAST Championships where they saw three gold medals, four second place finishes and three bronze medals. The No. 23 Huskies look to carry that performance over into this weekend’s New England Championships where events are slated to begin at 10 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

The Huskies, ranked first in the Northeast Region, historically have been outstanding at the regional meet where the team has captured seven straight titles. At the 2012 New England Championships, UConn posted five first place finishes, including a stellar showing in the high jump where the Huskies grabbed three of the top four spots with Natasha Mclaren guiding the crew.

Additionally, senior Ana Groff enters the meet searching for her third consecutive crown in the 500 after reaching the top of the podium in 2011 and 2012.

Following this weekend’s meet, UConn will compete at the ECAC Championships. Check back to uconnhuskies.com on Saturday evening for the New England’s full recap and results.
