BOSTON, Conn.-At the conclusion of day one at the New England Championships, the Huskies had one top-five finish and are sending 14 to the finals on Sunday. The Huskies four points comes from junior Angelica Gilsenan (Danbury, Conn.) who placed fifth in the pole vault with a leap of 3.67, a new school record.
Connecticut will send three Huskies to the 60 meter hurdle finals on Saturday with sophomore Madalayne Smith (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) leading the group with a first place finish (8.56), while sophomores Shavon Briscoe (Brandywine, Md.) (8.97) and Chantal Scott (Raleigh, N.C.) (8.98) also qualified.
Freshman Brianna Allen (Windsor, Conn.) and Lyte secured seats in the 200m finals with times of 24.75 and 24.95, while Allen will also compete in the 400m finals following a dash of 56.48 in the prelims.
Joining Allen in the 400m finals will be sophomore Tiffany Daley (Northborough, Mass.) who captured first place (56.35) in the preliminaries and freshman Nyanka Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who finished second (56.36).
Junior Ana Groff (Orlando, Fla.) is the lone Husky that will compete in the 500m dash after a time of 1:14.13 on Friday, while senior Shelby Donahue (Griswold, Conn.) is the only UConn athlete in the 800m finals.
The final two Huskies to qualify for Saturday’s finals was senior Meghan Cunningham (Simsbury, Conn.) and freshman Terra Briody (Ridgefield, Conn.) who ran the 1,000m in 2:57.82 and 2:58.11, respectively.
