STORRS, CT (March 5) -- Senior Wadudah Nurul-Islam (Providence, RI) and sophomore Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) of the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship and will be competing in the weight throw and high jump, respectively, at the meet, to be held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR, from Mar. 8-9.

The weight throw event will be held on the first day of competition on Friday, Mar. 8, at noon. The high jump will be held on Saturday, Mar. 9, at 3:45 p.m.

Nurul-Islam garnered a trip to the NCAA Championship by virtue of a school-record heave of 19.79m (64’ 11 1/4") at the ECAC Championship on Mar. 3. The effort surpassed the NCAA automatic mark of 19.50m, providing Nurul-Islam with an automatic berth to the NCAAs. The throw also ranks Nurul-Islam 11th in the country.

Mullen became a provisional qualifier this past weekend at the ECAC Championship. Her leap of 1.8m (5’ 10 3/4") in the high jump ranks her 14th in the country.

The duo become the 14th and 15th athletes in UConn women’s track and field history to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Earlier this season, sophomore Sarah Casilli (Jamaica Plain, MA) competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
