STORRS, Conn.- Coming off a strong showing at the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships the women’s track and field team continues the championship season at the ECAC Championships this weekend at Princeton. The Huskies concluded the conference championship with two gold medals and four bronze medals.
Last year, Connecticut claimed second at the outdoor ECACs with Ilva Bikanova taking home a title in the high jump. Prior to the 2011 ECAC Championships the Huskies had taken home three straight crowns.
Senior All-American Heather Wilson added another title to her name last weekend capturing first place in the 800m with a time of 2:04.55. She set a new stadium record with her first place finish and was just shy of breaking the meet record.
Also playing a vital role in how the Huskies will conclude the weekend will be All-American Celina Emerson who left the USF Track and Field Stadium with a gold medal in the 400m.
In the field events the Huskies will need solid days from All-Americans Victoria Flowers and Bikanova. Flowers podiumed twice last weekend with a third place in both the hammer and the shot put. Sophomore Natasha McLaren will also be a large component to Connecticut’s success after turning in a third place performance at the BIG EAST Championships.
Friday’s events will begin at noon with the last event ending at 8 p.m. at the William Weaver Track & Field Stadium. Click here to find more info on the ECAC website.
