NCAA Regional Qualifiers - Complete Schedule

STORRS, Conn. –
Coming off a second-place finish in the American Outdoor Track and Field Championships, seven athletes from the UConn women’s track and field team qualified for the NCAA Regional Qualifiers next week in Lexington, Ky.

Graduate student Emily Durgin highlights the crop of talent competing for the Huskies at the University of Kentucky from next Thursday, May 25 to Saturday, May 27.

Durgin, who was named Co-Women’s Most Outstanding Track Performer at the AAC Championships, will compete in the 5000m and 10,000m runs at the NCAA’s. She set a stadium record at the University of Houston last weekend with a time of 16:33.94 in the 5000m.

Joining her will be sophomore Courtney Akerley in the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Susan Aneno in the 800m run, freshman Chanell Botsis in the hammer throw, freshman Thalia Ghalam in the javelin, freshman Divine Oladipo in discus and shot put, and sophomore Katherine Surin in the 400m.



Aneno won gold in the 800m at the AAC Championships, setting a stadium record with a time of 2:04.97. Oladipo took third in the discus throw (49.15m) Ghalam placed fourth in the javelin throw (46.48m) and Akerley won silver in the 3000m steeplechase (10:26.44).

Additionally at the AAC Championships, Botsis earned fifth in the hammer throw (59.09m) and Surin was sixth in the 400m run (54.34).

Five out of the seven athletes competed at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships back in early March. Durgin is the only one who has previously competed at the NCAA Regional Qualifiers.
