Huskies Compete on Day One of NCAA East Preliminary

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore sprinter Susan Aneno led the UConn women’s track and field team participants in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round on Thursday, finishing 19th in the 800m run and advancing to the quarterfinals on Friday.

Aneno, who ran the 800m in a time of 2:08.47, will be running in lane seven of the second heat on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for a possible trip to Eugene, Ore. in the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

Four other Huskies competed on Thursday, including graduate student Emily Durgin, who placed 17th in the 10k. Durgin was recently named Co-Women’s Most Outstanding Track Performer at the American Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Freshman thrower Chanell Botsis finished 30th in the hammer throw (54.71m), while freshman Thalia Ghalam placed 40th in javelin (40.76m).

Sophomore Kat Surin ran the 400m in a time of 54.45, putting her in 31st on Thursday. She placed sixth (54.34) in the 400m at the American Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

6:30 – Sophomore Susan Aneno runs in the 800m quarterfinals.

8:20 – Sophomore Courtney Akerley competes in the 3000m steeplechase.
