    GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mandela Graves-Fulgham and Trisha-Ann Hawthorne will both advance to the 2010 NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. after qualifying for the championship on Friday at the NCAA East Regional in their respective events.

    Mandela Graves-Fulgham ran a 53.05 in the 400 meter for eighth place overall and third in her heat to qualify for the competition in Eugene. Her finish breaks the UConn record, which she previously set at the ECAC Championship in Princeton, N.J. Trisha-Ann Hawthorne also qualified for the NCAA Championship as she was third in her heat in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.40 and took eighth overall as she moves into the championship for June 10-12.

    Hawthorne and Graves-Fulgham made it through the qualifying rounds on Thursday as Hawthorne's run of 11.40 in the 100 meter puts her through to the next step of the championship. Graves-Fulgham ran a 53.30 time in the 400 to qualify as well. Their times were the 10th and eighth overall among 48 competitors, which is the total amount of competitors in each event.

    Hawthorne also advanced to the quarterfinal of the 200 meter dash (23.38), which will be held on Saturday. Phylicia George will compete on Saturday as well after qualifying for the 100 meter hurdles quarterfinals. She finished the preliminaries with a time of 13.43.

    The Huskies' 4x100 meter relay team will run Saturday at 6:15 p.m. Tynisha McMillian will throw in the discus on Saturday as well, with that event taking place at 3:30 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
