    PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UConn women’s track and field standout Victoria Flowers earned the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award for women’s indoor track and field as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.  The BIG EAST Conference announced 24 winners of the 2012-13 BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards, which recognize academic and athletic achievement as well as community service. 

    The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each Big East-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible. The winners are chosen by the Big East Faculty Athletics Representative Council.

    Flowers capped off a spectacular career at UConn with an excellent senior campaign which included winning three BIG EAST crowns as the Providence, R.I. native won the indoor weight throw and the outdoor shot put and hammer titles. Earning three All-American honors in 2013, Flowers totaled seven career All-American titles which is most in program history. She was tabbed both the 2013 indoor and outdoor Northeast Regional Field Athlete of the Year for her outstanding performances.

    Women’s Cross Country

    Earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships, finishing 35th overall and helping the team to a national runner-up finish. Earned All-Big East honors after placing 11th at the conference meet.

    Field Hockey

    Registered a 1.81 goals-against average and a .745 save percentage for the 12-8 Cardinals. All-Big East Second Team selection.

    All-Big East First Team safety. Third-round draft pick of the New England Patriots. Earned a 4.0 GPA in the Spring 2013 semester.

    Men’s Golf

    Two-time All-Big East selection. Named to the Ping All-Region Team and was Villanova’s 2012-13 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

    Women’s Golf

    2012 All-Big East selection. Registered two top-10 finishes and one top-five finish in 2012-13.

    Men’s Lacrosse

    Two-time All-Big East Second Team goalie. Ranked third in the conference in save percentage (.567) and second in saves per game (12.75).

    Men’s Indoor Track & Field
