CENTERVILLE, MA (Dec. 5, 2001) -- After claiming first-place in two events at the Brown Invitational, senior Wadudah Nurul-Islam (Providence, RI) of the University of Connecticut women's track and field team was named the ECAC Division I Women's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Nurul-Islam took home victories in the weight throw and the shot put at the first indoor meet of the season this past Saturday.  Her effort of 61'5" in the weight throw earned her a provisional spot at the NCAA Indoor Championship, as well as broke a school-best mark of 60'5 1/4" that Nurul-Islam set last season.

Nurul-Islam also posted a heave of 42'11" in the shot put for first place at Brown.

Nurul-Islam and the UConn women's track and field team are back in action Jan. 12 at the Yale Invitational.
