Stephen Yates enters his second season with the UConn Huskies. This past season Yates helped the Huskies to a 19-12 season and a fourth place regular season finish in the Big East. The fourth place finish secured a spot for the Huskies in the Big East Tournament for the first time since 2009.
Yates joined the Connecticut coaching staff after spending the 2011 season as an assistant coach at CoastalCarolinaUniversity. Prior to arriving in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Yates spent three years as a coach and the assistant director of operations at Complete Athlete Inc.; TCA Volleyball Club in Fountain Valley, Calif. While at TCA, Yates had the opportunity to coach and train players at all levels including scholarship athletes that went on to play collegiately in conferences such as the PAC-12, ACC, SEC, and the IVY league. Along with coaching Yates also played a vital role with the administration in the expansion of TCA Volleyball club to one of the biggest in the country with over 1000 students athletes participating on a yearly basis.

In 2009, Yates spent the fall season as a graduate assistant at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif. in the athletics department while in pursuit of is masters degree. Yates earned a bachelor of arts in American Studies from Emmanuel College in Boston,Mass. in 2007 and later completed a master's of arts in administration and coaching from Concordia in 2010.
