STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team remains perfect on the season after sweeping Brown, 3-0 in their second match of the UConn Toyota Classic this afternoon. The Huskies are now 2-0 on the season while Brown falls to 0-2.
Match scores were 25-22, 25-23, 25-11.
The Huskies once again struggled in the first set, falling behind 9-4 early on before they were able to rattle off five straight points to tie the set at 9-9, including a point on Rebecca Murray's (Carmel, Ind.) first kill of the match. UConn never looked back as they held the lead for the rest of the set, winning on a Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) kill from Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas).
UConn and Brown battled back and forth once again during the second set, before the Huskies were easily able to put away the Bears in the third set, led by Kirk who posted two kills, two assists, three digs and one block assist.
Kirk ended the match with a team and match-high six kills, while Murray added five and Cayla Broadwater (Williamsport, Md.) added four.
Morgan Freeman (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted the only block solos of the match, recording two in the third set. She also led the team with seven block assists while tallying three kills.
The Huskies finish the UConn Toyota Classic this evening, facing Southern Illinois at 7:30 p.m. in the final match of the tournament.
