WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team defeated Hartford, 3-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday night. The Huskies improved to 4-3 overall, while the Hawks dropped to 3-5.
UConn won the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-19. Hartford came back for a third-set victory, 25-16 before the Huskies bounced back with a 25-16 win of their own in the fourth.
Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) led the UConn attack with 18 kills on a .368 kill percentage. Senior Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman Madeline Kuppe (Palo Alto, Calif.) each reached double figures in kills with 12 and 10 respectively.
Senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonowanda, N.Y.) picked up 25 digs in the win and moved into fourth place all time in the Connecticut record book with 1,416 in her career; passing Jen Halusek, Jamie Hadenfelt and Erika Hanson.
Freshman setter Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) set a program-high 50 assists to go with eight digs.
For the Hawks, Sareeta Nethersole recorded the only double-double of the night with 15 kills and 13 digs. Kami Nethersole added 14 kills, while Saara Carissimi notched a team-best 15 digs.
The Huskies return to action this weekend with four matches at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, hosted by Missouri State. The weekend gets underway when Connecticut takes on New Orleans at 12:00 pm CT.
