BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of the New England Classic at Northeastern University to finish with a 2-1 record on the weekend. The Huskies were victorious in the early session over Boston College, 3-0, and later fell to the host NU Huskies in straight sets in the nightcap. UConn is now 8-6 on the season.
Connecticut topped the Eagles by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 27-25. Against Northeastern, UConn fell 25-19, 25-17 and 25-14.
Early in the day, senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Huskies over BC with 12 kills and eight digs. Freshman middle blocker Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) had a strong game at the net with six kills, four blocks and a .545 attack percentage.
Katty Workman posted a double-double for the Eagles, boasting a match-best 16 kills to go with 12 digs.
After hitting .245 against Boston College, Connecticut hit just .108 against Northeastern. Quayle scored a team-leading six kills, while Maving recorded a season-low five digs.
Kelly Bacon and Janelle Tucker both reached double figures in kills for NU with 12 and 11, respectively.
Prinzbach and Thomas were each named to the All-New England Challenge Tourament Team.
The Huskies return to action for a mid-week road contest at intrastate rival Sacred Heart at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 19.
