FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The University of Connecticut team came away with a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart in its final non-conference match-up of the season to improve to 9-6 on the season. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 2-12 on the year.
The Huskies won the first set 25-17 and the second 25-19, but were pushed in the third; ultimately taking it 25-23.
Senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) led UConn with 10 kills and seven blocks. Junior Jackie Wattles (Liberty Hill, Texas) and sophomore Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) added nine and eight kills, respectively.
Senior setter Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) posted a season-high 30 assists in just her third start of the season. Defensively, senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonowanda, N.Y.) led the team with 18 digs, while Maugle was second with nine.
Dianis Mercado netted a team-high nine kills for SHU to go with 11 digs, while Johanna Ovsenek chipped in with seven kills.
Connecticut outhit Sacred Heart, .279 to .152, for the match.
The Huskies return to action on Friday night as they host Villanova for the first BIG EAST match-up of the season at 7:00 pm in Gampel Pavilion.
