STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team played its first home match at Gampel Pavilion in nearly a month on Saturday afternoon.  The Huskies played a host to Marquette and after taking the first set 25-23, ultimately fell to the Golden Eagles in four sets, 3-1.

The loss, its fourth straight, dropped UConn to an even 8-8 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST, while Marquette improved to 12-4 and 2-0.  The Golden Eagles won sets two through four by scores of 25-20, 25-26, and 25-13.

Senior outside hitter Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) inched closer to the 1,000-kill mark with a team-best 12 kills, including four in the fourth set as UConn attempted to rally from an early deficit.  Junior Cayla Broadwater (Williamsport, Md.) was second on the team with seven kills, while senior Allison Nickel (Pittsford, N.Y.) hit a team-high .571 on five kills.

For Marquette, senior outside hitters Ciara Jones and Ashley Beyer tied for a match-leading 19 kills each.  Jones attacked at a rate of .382, while Beyer attacked at .368.

Sophomore libero Julie Jeziorowski dug 20 balls for the Golden Eagles and picked up six assists.  Freshman setter collected a match-high 45 assists for Marquette to go with eight digs.  For Connecticut, junior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) picked up 14 digs, while classmate Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) dished out 31 helpers.



UConn is back in action tomorrow as Syracuse visits Gampel Pavilion at 2:00 pm.
