TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team fought off five straight match points before ultimately falling at South Florida, 3-2, on Friday night. The Huskies dropped to 9-10 overall and 0-5 in the BIG EAST, while the Bulls improved to 7-10 and 3-2. UConn took theirst set 25-23, dropped the next two by scores of 25-19 and 25-19 battled back to win the fourth, 25-20, before going down in the final set, 21-19.

Junior Mattison Quayle (Los Angels, Calif.) led the Huskies with 17 kills to go with seven digs. Senior Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) and freshman Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) each recorded 16 kills. Kirk hit a team-best .364 for the match, while Maugle came through with back-to-back kills, with UConn backed into match points for USF.

Junior setter Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) recorded a double-double with a season-high 49 assists to go with 12 digs. Junior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) notched a game-high 27 digs.

For South Florida, freshman Valerie El Houssine led all players with 21 kills, while sophomore Kayla Walton hit .405 on 15 kills. Freshman setter Shelbie Dailey recorded a double-double of her own with 51 assists and 12 digs.

The Huskies return to action at home on Tuesday night for their final non-conference match-up of the season as Fordham visits Gampel Pavilion for a 7:00 pm contest.
