Huskies Bounce Back With Four-Set Win at DePaul

CHICAGO – The University of Connecticut volleyball team notched a 3-1 victory at DePaul on Sunday afternoon.  The Huskies, 9-0 all-time against the Blue Demons, improved to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST.

UConn scored a 25-21 victory in the first set before a 25-20 setback in the second.  The Huskies responded with wins of 25-23 and 25-20 in the third and fourth.

Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) led Connecticut with 17 kills and added seven digs.  Classmate Karson Ratliff (Wake Forest, N.C.) tallied a career-high 14 kills and hit a team-best .616 for the match.

Senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) also reached double figures with 13 kills and nine digs.

For Depaul (6-13, 1-5), Vesela Zapryanova posted a match-leading 19 kills and a .438 attack percentage.  Callie Heubener was second on the team with 12 kills.

UConn senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and DePaul’s Allyson Rooks tied for the match lead in digs with 14.

Freshman setter Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) dished out 50 assists for the Huskies, while Aubree Hord collected 32 for the Blue Demons.

Connecticut returns home to host Cincinnati on Friday, October 12 at 4:00 pm.  The game will be a part of the men’s and women’s basketball “First Night” festivities.
