    STORRS, Conn. - Junior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) matched her career-high with 21 kills and the University of Connecticut volleyball team scored a 3-1 non-conference win over Fordham at Gampel Pavilion, Tuesday night.  The Huskies improved to 10-10 on the season and finished 10-5 against non-league opponents, while the Rams fell to 5-15.

    Fordham took the first set 25-23, despite UConn leading by as many as five points earlier in the frame.  The Huskies bounced back winning each of the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-20.

    As a team, Connecticut hit .268 for the match, exactly twice as good as the Ram's .134.  Quayle added nine digs to her 21 kills and hit .280 for the game.  Senior outside hitter Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) reached double figures with a 12-kill night, while hitting .476.

    Junior middle hitter Cayla Broadwater (Williamsport, Md.) and sophomore middle blocker Jackie Wattles (Liberty Hill, Texas) also contributed to the UConn attack with nine and seven kills, respectively.  Broadwater hit an impressive .500 for the match, while Wattles attacked at a rate of .462.  Both players also totaled five blocks.

    For Fordham, senior Brittany Daulton and sophomore Lisa Hipp tied for the team lead in kills with 11.  Both players recorded a double-double as Daulton picked up 12 digs and Hipp 11.

    Junior setter Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) dished out 48 assists and registered nine digs for the Huskies.  Roidt also added a match-high three service aces.  Sophomores Sara Konkel and Mary Diamantidis alternated at the setter position for the Rams.  Konkel collected a team-leading 21 assists, while Diamantidis added 13.

    UConn junior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) led all players with 17 digs, while freshman teammate Sage Esposito (Milford, Conn.) set a career-high with 12.

    The Huskies return to BIG EAST action as they take on St. John's at 7:00 pm on Saturday October 15 at Gampel Pavilion.
