VILLANOVA, Pa. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team fell to Villanova, 3-1, in BIG EAST action on Friday evening. The Huskies dropped to an even 11-11 overall and 1-6 in league play, while the Wildcats lifted their record to 14-8 and 6-2.
Villanova won the first set 25-18, but UConn responded with a 25-22 win in the second. The Wildcats went on to take the next two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-15.
Junior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied her third straight and team-leading sixth double-double of the season with a 10-kill, 16-dig match. Quayle was one of three Huskies to finish with 10 kills. Senior Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) and freshman Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) both reached double figures.
Villanova junior Krista Anderson led all players with 17 kills to go with a .267 attack percentage. Redshirt junior Morgan Petkovich recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs.
Senior libero Kim Maroon posted 39 digs for the Wildcats, while junior Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) added 33 for UConn. Freshman setter Allie DiBernardo chipped in with 45 assists for Villanova and junior Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) contributed 32 for Connecticut.
The Huskies stay on the road for a 2:00 pm match at Georgetown on Sunday afternoon before retuning home to face Notre Dame next Saturday.
