PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) powered the University of Connecticut volleyball team to a 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh, Sunday afternoon, with her seventh double-double of the season. The Huskies improved to 14-10 overall and 5-4 in the BIG EAST, while the Panthers fell to 13-11, 4-6.
UConn won the first set, 25-21, and PITT came back to tie the match with a 27-25 win in the second. The Huskies narrowly defeated the Panthers with wins of 26-24 in the third and 25-21 in the fifth.
For Maugle, she posted a match-high 17 kills and added 17 digs. Classmate Karson Ratliff (Wake Forest, N.C.) was second on the team with 13 kills, while hitting .281. Freshman middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) reached double figures for the second straight match with 10 kills and hit a team-best .368.
Pittsburgh was led by Jessica Wynn’s 13 kills. Margy Acton registered 17 digs and Lindsey Zitke had 33 assists.
The Huskies, who return to action next Saturday at home against Rutgers, have surpassed their conference win total from 2011 in just nine matches.
