STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team improved to 15-10 overall and 6-4 in the BIG EAST with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers at Gampel Pavilion, Saturday afternoon. The win was the third straight for the Huskies as they improved to 6-3 at home this season. The Scarlet Knights dropped to 16-9 and 2-8 in league play.
UConn won each set by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-23.
Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) posted her eighth double-double of the season with a team-leading 11 kills and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) also reached double figures with 10 kills and fell short of a double-double with nine digs.
Rutgers freshman Alex Lassa led all players with 15 kills and added 10 digs.
Freshman setter Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) dished out 31 assists for the Huskies, while senior Stephanie Zielinski had 34 for the Scarlet Knights. Prinzbach also teamed up for four blocks.
Senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) had a match-best 22 digs for UConn and freshman Ali Schroeter led RU with 15.
Freshman middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) was strong at the net supplying eight blocks, two solo, and six kills.
The Huskies remain at home tomorrow for a 2:00 pm match-up with Seton Hall. The two teams entered the weekend tied for fifth in the BIG EAST standings.
