SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team defeated Syracuse in its final match-up as BIG EAST opponents, 3-0, Sunday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 17-11 overall and 8-5 in the league, while the Orange dropped to 10-18, 2-11.
UConn won each set by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-22.
Senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) led all players with 16 kills, hitting .400 and collecting nine kills. Freshman middle blocker Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) hit a team-best .471 with 10 kills and three blocks.
Syracuse was led by Silvi Uattara with 13 kills as she hit .333 for the match.
Freshman setter Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) dished out 35 assists for the Huskies, while senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) tallied 17 digs. Emily Betteridge picked up 19 assists for the Orange and Nicolette Serratore had 16 digs.
For the match, Connecticut hit .296 collectively and held Syracuse to a .167 attack percentage.
The Huskies are back in action at Georgetown on Wednesday at 11:30 am before returning home for “Senior Night” against USF at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 9.
