The Huskies (16-11, 7-9 American) played the Bearcats tightly, but lost to Cincinnati in Gampel Pavilion – 25-15, 25-23, and 25-17. Redshirt freshman Kayla Williams had a team-high 10 digs and senior Rebecca Rivera had 19 assists in the loss.
Senior Camille Evans contributed six kills against the Bearcats. Williams also added six kills and two aces. Cincinnati had a .349 hitting percentage as a team, compared to UConn’s .143.
The first set started off with a kill by Cmajdalka, who would go onto record seven total kills in that first set. The score stayed close until the Bearcats scored six unanswered points to take a 19-10 lead, which allowed them to move to 1-0 after a 25-15 win.
The second set had a tough start with UConn finding themselves down 8-2. Then after coming out of a timeout the Huskies went on to score four unanswered and forced a Cincinnati Timeout. Near the end of the set consecutive attacking errors by the Bearcats and four kills by Adeniyi had the Huskies only down 22-21. However Cincinnati took another timeout and went on to win the second set 25-23.
The third set had a great start with the UConn finding themselves with their largest lead of the match at 10-7, after scoring five unanswered points, two of which were kills by senior Jade Strawberry. The set remained close and eventually reached 17-17, after which the Bearcats went on an 8-0 run to win the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
