ORLANDO, Fla. – Redshirt freshman Kayla Williams had a monster game on Sunday afternoon, recording her 15th double-double of the season with 20 kills and 17 digs, but it was not enough in a 3-1 loss to UCF – 22-25, 15-25, 25-15, 23-25.
The Huskies (16-13, 7-11 American) dropped their second straight match to the Knights this season and their third overall. UConn finishes its road schedule with a winning record – something it hasn’t done since 2012 - going 7-6 in 2016.
Adeniyi had a season-high 12 kills against the Knights, while junior Danielle Cabel contributed 10 kills to the offensive attack.
UConn shined in the third set, recording a match-best .293 hitting percentage to UCF’s .075. The Huskies even held a lead in the fourth set, 22-21, until the Knights ended the match on a 4-1 run.
Williams had seven kills on 12 attacks (.500 hitting percentage) in the third set, which UConn led the whole way. Senior Rebecca Rivera had a kill that made it 10-3 Huskies, while two kills by Williams finished off the set.
Williams and Cabel combined for nine kills in the fourth set, while a kill by Adeniyi gave UConn a 22-21 lead and resulted in a UCF timeout. The Knights won four of the last five points, though, including two kills by Jale Hervey to end the match.
UConn plays two home matches this week against Tulsa on Wednesday and SMU on Friday. First serve is at 12 p.m. (ET) for both. Friday is Senior Day for the Huskies.
