Karson Ratliff led UConn in kills for the third straight match

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – The UConn women’s volleyball team (13-19, 4-13 American) dropped its penultimate match of the 2013 season at Louisville (22-7, 17-0 American) in four sets (21-25, 25-20, 11-25, 16-25) on Wednesday night at Cardinal Arena.
Karson Ratliff (Wake Forest, N.C.) led UConn in kills for the third straight match, totaling 12 in the setback. Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) also had a strong day for the Huskies, tallying 10 kills on a .389 attack percentage. Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) added eight kills and Jade Strawberry (Tallahassee, Fla.) posted five.
Brianna Datti (Durham, N.H.) led UConn defensively, scooping a team-high 14 digs. Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) also chipped in nine and Amy Christensen (Ashburn, Va.) and Sage Esposito (Milford, Conn.) combined for nine. Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) paced the Husky offense with 32 assists, also grabbing five digs.
Louisville was led by a 15-kill, 13-dig double-double from Maya McClendon, and also got 14 kills from Emily Juhl. Katie George also doubled up with 46 assists and 15 digs, and Caitlin Welch led the Cardinals defensively with 25 digs.
After UofL took a tight first set, the Huskies battled back and led throughout the second frame, winning it 25-20. The Cardinals responded with a dominant third set, winning it 25-11. Louisivlle jumped out fast again the fourth, but UConn battled back to within three, forcing a timeout at 15-12. That was as close as the Huskies would get, falling 25-16 in the set and 3-1 in the match.
The Huskies conclude their season on Friday afternoon with a trip to Cincinnati. Game time with the Bearcats is set for 12 p.m.
