STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team released its 2015 spring schedule on Wednesday, as announced by second-year head coach Kris Grunwald. The Huskies will take part in three round-robin tournaments throughout the months of March and April.
UConn kicks the spring slate off with a tournament at Rutgers on Saturday, March 28 that will feature the host Scarlet Knights, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Lehigh and Hofstra. Next up, the Huskies will travel to Kingston, R.I. on Saturday, April 11 to take on Providence, URI and Brown, before rounding out the spring tournament schedule with a home competition on Saturday, April 18 that includes regional foes Central Connecticut, URI, Providence College and Fairfield.
Grunwald and the Huskies amassed a 12-19 overall record in 2014, including five wins in American Athletic Conference play. The squad won its final two matches of the season and also won the in-season Bucknell Tournament on Sept. 13, 2014.
Last season, junior middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) became the first player in The American to earn both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season. The junior was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, and followed it up with Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 29. Anagu hit .455 while averaging 4.71 kills/set as UConn opened conference play 2-0 for the first time in 10 years. She tallied a career-high 19 kills in a sweep of Temple on Sept. 24, tied for the second-most in a three-set match in The American’s history.
