STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut volleyball team is set to round out its 2015 spring schedule with a home tournament on Saturday, April 18. The Huskies will play three matches at the Guyer Gym, located within the Greet Field House on the Storrs Campus.
The Huskies will kick off action against Providence at 10 a.m. before competing against Rhode Island (11 a.m.) and Hartford (12 p.m.). Each match will consist of two sets played to 25.
There is no admission charge for fans planning to attend the event. Due to spacing issues, there will be limited seating available for spectators. Fans are encouraged to park in the North Garage.
Earlier this spring, UConn played a tournament at Rutgers and also played matches against URI, Providence and Brown on April 11 in Kingston, R.I.
Head coach Kris Grunwald and the Huskies amassed a 12-19 overall record in 2014, including five wins in American Athletic Conference play. The squad won its final two matches of the season and also won the in-season Bucknell Tournament on Sept. 13, 2014.
Individually, junior middle blocker Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) became the first player in The American to earn both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season. The junior was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, and followed it up with Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 29. Anagu hit .455 while averaging 4.71 kills/set as UConn opened conference play 2-0 for the first time in 10 years. She tallied a career-high 19 kills in a sweep of Temple on Sept. 24, tied for the second-most in a three-set match in The American's history.
