Volleyball Inks Six Student-Athletes for 2015 Campaign

Kris Grunwald announced six additions to the Husky roster for the 2015 season.

STORRS, Conn. - On Friday, University of Connecticut volleyball head coach Kris Grunwald and his staff announced signing of six student-athletes for the 2015 campaign. The Huskies will welcome Elizabeth Kline, Danielle Cabel, Emma Turner, Kayla Williams, Iman McGary and Kennedy Arundel to the Storrs campus to compete for a Husky program that won 12 matches a season ago.

"I am very excited to welcome the 2015 signing class to the Husky family," Grunwald said. "We are all competing in a new era in UConn volleyball and I am looking forward to what each of these young women can bring to our team."

Elizabeth Kline | Defensive Specialist | Glenshaw, Pa.

A four-year letter winner at Shaler Area High School and a member of the Renaissance Volleyball Club, Kline served as team captain for three seasons. She earned First Team All-Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Honors in both her junior and senior seasons and was tabbed as team MVP on three occasions. A four-year First Team All-Section member, Kline led her squad in digs during each of her four seasons at Shaler, helping the team win a Section Championship during her final two campaigns.

Kline also earned letters in high school for basketball and track. The daughter of Alex and Ellen Kline, she has one brother, Alex Jr., and two sisters, Chelsea and Tori.



Danielle Cabel | Outside Hitter | Bettendorf, Iowa

A Iowa transfer and member of the Fusion Volleyball Club, Cabel played four seasons of volleyball under head coach Kyle Condon at Assumption High School, earning a pair of First Team All-MAC honors. After securing a nod as a 2010 All-MAC honorable mention, she was placed on the conference's second team during her sophomore season. In addition to earning All-Conference First Team honors in 2013, she was tabbed as an Iowa Class 3A First Team member. She helped lead her team to state tournament appearances in both 2012 and 2013 and earned a spot on the 2013 Class 3A All-State Tournament team.

Off the court, she was a two-year member of the National Honors Society and was placed on the High Honor Roll in each of her four years at Assumption. The daughter of David and Julie Cabel, she has one brother, Matt.  

Emma Turner | Setter | Winter Park, Fla.

A three-year standout at Lake Highland Prep in Winter, Park. Fla and a member of the Orlando Volleyball Academy, Turner served as a team captain in both 2013 and 2014. As a senior, she notched 883 assists and scooped 137 digs en route to being named Team MVP. She led her squad to a second-place finish at the 2013 state championship and also was a member of the 2013 AAU National Championship runner-up team. In 2013, she was tabbed as both a AAU All-American, as well as a Junior National Championship All-Star.

In the classroom, she was a member of the President's List during all four years of her high school career and was a member of the National Honors Society. The daughter of Jeff and Dee Dee Turner, she has one sister, Allie.

Kayla Williams | Pin Hitter | Staten Island, N.Y.   

A member of the All-Star Volleyball Association, Williams earned four letters under head coach Sonia Colon in her high school career As a senior, her 204 regular season kills topped the PSAL, while her 62 service aces were good for 15th in the league. She was tabbed as team MVP in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and served as captain in both the 2014 and 2015 campaigns.

In addition to her time on the court, she captained the school's tennis team and was selected as team MVP in 2014. The daughter of Marc Williams and Charlene Threewitts, she has three sisters, Angela, Ciarra, Mya, and three brothers, Jorrell, Jalen and Leon.

Iman McGary | Outside Hitter | Rockford, Ill.

A four-year player at Keith Country Day School under head coach Steve Williams and a member of Fusion Volleyball Club, McGary is a two-time All-Conference MVP. In 2013, she led her squad to a state championship, compiling 323 kills, 29 blocks and 46 service aces. She was tabbed as a 2014 McNamara All-Tournament team member and also was an All-American and National Player of the Year finalist. In 2012, she was chosen to the AVCA Phenom Senior Watch List and attended the Phenom College Prep Program in Louisville, K.Y. prior to the NCAA competition in December 2012.

The daughter of Michael and Linda McGary, she has one sister, India.

Kennedy Arundel | Defensive Specialist | Chicago, Ill.

Playing at Mother McAuley in Chicago, Ill. under head coach Jen Dejardly and at Michio volleyball academy, Arundel was tabbed as the MVP of the 15's Junior National Championship Open Division and also selected as the MVP of both the 15's Open National Junior Classic and the 16's Open Presdent's Day Challenge.

Off the court, Arundel was a member of the GCAC All-Academic Team. The daughter of Michael and Marla Arundel, she has one brother, Michael, and two sisters, Ireland and Ryan.
