    2014 Schedule

STORRS, Conn. - UConn women's volleyball coach Kris Grunwald has announced the 32-match schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. The slate features 20 conference matchups via home-and-home series with each league member, as well as 12 non-conference contests spread throughout four in-season tournaments.

The American Athletic Conference welcomes East Carolina, Tulsa, and Tulane to the league in 2014 as the Huskies prepare to face each of these teams twice in conference play, as well as each returning member two times. There are four teams on the schedule that the Huskies have never played before, including conference opponents ECU and Tulsa.

UConn will open up the season by hosting Indiana, Central Connecticut, and New Hampshire at Gampel Pavilion in the 2014 UConn Classic. The tournament will begin on August 29, when the Huskies will face New Hampshire after topping the Wildcats in Durham, N.H. last year. The Wildcats are coming off a year that they qualified for the NCAA Tournament, going 20-12. On August 30, the tournament concludes with UConn facing the Blue Devils and Hoosiers in a day-night double-dip.

The Huskies will then get a few days off before traveling to Raleigh, N.C. for the North Carolina State Tournament on Sept. 5 and 6. UConn will face Toledo on the first day, which will be the first-ever volleyball meeting between the two schools. The second day will have another double-header, first with Rice and then with host N.C. State. It will be the second time that the Huskies have faced the Owls and the third time they have played the Wolfpack.

Bucknell will host a tournament in Lewisburg, Pa. that includes themselves, UConn, Cornell, and Hofstra. The matches will take place from Sept. 12 to 13. The Huskies hold an all-time winning record over Bucknell (4-0), but have not played the Bison since 1998.

The in-season tournaments wrap-up with another played in Storrs on Sept. 19 and 20 among northeast teams. The Huskies will play host to Columbia on the first day, and Bryant and Hofstra on the second. The match against Bryant marks the first meeting between the two universities.

Conference play for the Huskies starts on Sept. 24 against Temple at home. The Owls hold a 7-2 record in the all-time series against UConn. Grunwald's squad will then be heading south, playing at East Carolina for the first time (Sept. 26), South Florida (Oct. 3), and Central Florida (Oct. 5). The Huskies were swept by both Florida teams last season.

The Huskies will return for two home matches against familiar foes on Oct. 10 and 12, with Memphis and Cincinnati respectively. UConn swept the Bearcats and split with the Tigers in 2013, picking up three of their five total conference wins in the process.

On Oct. 17 and 19, the Huskies head south again, traveling to Louisiana and Texas to face Tulane and Houston on the mid-fall road trip. The only time UConn and Tulane have played resulted in a Husky victory back in Sept. of 2006.

Two home games against Tulsa on Oct. 24 and SMU on Oct. 26 round out the first meetings with all American opponents.

The rest of the way, five road matches will come against Cincinnati (Oct. 31), Memphis (Nov. 2), Temple (Nov. 12), SMU (Nov. 21) and Tulsa (Nov. 23). The Huskies will have five home games against UCF (Nov. 7), USF (Nov. 9), East Carolina (Nov. 16), Houston (Nov. 26), and Tulane (Nov. 28) which completes the 2014 schedule.

Scheduled game times are all subject to change.
