STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team and head coach Kris Grunwald have announced the hiring of assistant coach Matt Scott to the program, rounding out the Huskies’ staff for the 2016 season.
Scott, previously an assistant at Samford University, joins third-year assistant Ellen Kimball on Grunwald’s staff. He comes to Storrs with nearly eight years of volleyball experience in multiple capacities.
"We are extremely excited to add Matt to the Uconn Husky volleyball family. The foundation of our program is about great people and we have certainly added another great piece to the puzzle," said Grunwald.
Before working two seasons at Samford, Scott was an integral part of the Louisville volleyball program from 2008 to 2013. Starting as a practice player in 2008, he was team manager for a pair of seasons before serving as video coordinator in 2012 and 2013.
"Matt is a dedicated person and coach who will pursue his responsibilities and program goals with a great deal of passion and pride. He is a well respected member of the coaching community which will help supplement our national recruiting efforts," said the UConn head coach.
In 2012, Scott received the American Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches4Coaches Scholarship. Starting in 2010, he was the head assistant coach of the Union 16 Adidas club team in Louisville, assisting in the coaching and conditioning efforts of the team.
Scott graduated from Louisville in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration. In 2013, he earned a Masters of Arts degree in Higher Education at Louisville.
