STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team has announced that it will open the 2014 season with the annual Blue vs. White scrimmage on Aug. 20. The scrimmage will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Harry A. Gampel Pavilion and will be open to the public.
The match will be the first for new UConn head coach Kris Grunwald, who was hired on April 2, 2014 after serving as an assistant coach at Auburn for the last two seasons.
UConn returns 11 letterwinners from the 2013 season, including seniors Karson Ratliff (Wake Forest, N.C.), Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) Amy Christensen (Ashburn, Va.), Brianna Datti (Durham, N.H.), and Sage Esposito (Milford, Conn.). The Husky returners will be joined by three freshman, Katherine Towslee (Woodinville, Wash.), Kenya Cason (Columbus, Ohio), and Tosin Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.), as well as transfers Jessika Long (Sandy, Utah) and Rebecca Rivera (Mississauga, Ontario).
The 2014 campaign will be UConn’s second in the American Athletic Conference after competing for more than 30 years in the Big East. East Carolina, Tulsa, and Tulane are set to join The American in 2014 as the Huskies prepare to face each of these teams twice in conference play during the fall.
