STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team has been selected to finish in fifth place in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, as announced by the American Athletic Conference on Monday.
In addition, senior outside hitter Jade Strawberry was the lone Husky chosen on the All-AAC Preseason Team, following a 2015 season where she earned All-AAC Second Team honors.
The Huskies ended 2015 with a 16-15 (10-10 AAC) record, tying them for fourth in The American. In his second season, head coach Kris Grunwald led UConn to a four-win improvement from the 12-19 mark in 2014.
Now in his third season, Grunwald welcomes two newcomers to the roster in freshmen Genna Florig and Avery Spaziani. Balance is the theme on the 2016 roster, as four seniors, four juniors and four sophomores round-out the lineup.
Cincinnati was voted to win the AAC, receiving 96 points and seven first-place votes in the poll. Temple (88 points) and SMU (84 points) each received two first-place votes, respectively. UCF (73 points) is slated to finish fourth.
Jordan Thompson of Cincinnati was voted Preseason Player of the Year, while Temple had a league-high three players chosen on the Preseason Team.
UConn opens the season in the Syracuse Invitational - playing at Syracuse on Aug. 26 (5 p.m. ET) and at Colgate on Aug. 27 (4 p.m. ET).
