STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team continues its preseason practice sessions, along with some fun team activities, on the road to the 2017 season-opener at St. John’s on Aug. 25.
“Hey Husky fans! Three of your junior girls here (Iman, Kennedy, and Emma). Heading into our second week of preseason we are all feeling a little sore. After our meetings with Dr. Tiff, we have been seeing positive differences both on and off the court. We even tried the drill she showed us again and we are definitely better the second time!
During practice this week, the coaches introduced a new warm up drill called “Don’t Drop the Baby” where each side has two balls they cannot let hit the floor while keeping one ball in play. While we struggled at first, the team has been getting to the gym early to practice the drill and we’ve really got it down now!
As a team activity, we have been going on 30 minute dates with each of our teammates in order to get to know each other on a more personal level. For example, Kennedy and Emma went on a date to Blaze pizza in downtown Storrs while Iman and Tosin went on a date to Froyo World, to treat themselves for their hard work so far this preseason. As a team activity, we have been gathering around in the lounge area of our dorm to watch movies together. We have watched the Disney favorite Aladdin, and some scary films such as Hush and Insidious. Hopefully our Disney sing along and frightened screams did not disturb the other people in the dorms!
After three hard days of two-a-day practices we are excited to be able to relax on our day off this Wednesday. For most of us, this day will consist of watching Netflix and relaxing. We will also be preparing for our team cook off that is taking place this Sunday. We are gathering with our teams and putting together a menu that we will serve everyone. Our coaches, Kris, Ellen, and Scotty, will taste the food from each team and come up with a winner. The winning team earns a trip to the Dairy Bar!!
In addition to the team competition coming up, we are also preparing for our Blue and White scrimmage this Friday. We hope that we get a good crowd for the game! Since we are playing in Guyer this season, we are excited to see how the atmosphere compared to Gampel. Guyer is much smaller, which will make the experience more intimate between the crowd and the court. We are hoping to make it very loud in the gym this year!
Even though we are only on the second week of preseason, UConn volleyball is “doing some really good stuff” as Coach Kris would say. We can’t wait for season to start! Hope to see you all there, Husky fans!
