STORRS, Conn. – The UConn volleyball team kicked off the 2015 season Friday as the squad held its annual Blue vs. White scrimmage at Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies, who are heading into their final days of preseason camp, are set to start the regular season in exactly one week at the UConn Invite.
The entire squad rotated between the Blue and White sides, allowing them to determine what will work best for the upcoming season.
Sophomore Kenya Cason posted a team-high 19 kills along with 13 digs. Classmate Tosin Adeniyi protected the net well and earned five solo blocks. Her first time in a Husky uniform, freshman Phoebe Wong added a team-best 18 digs. Redshirt junior Jessika Long led both squads with six service aces. Senior Erika Thomas delivered in her last scrimmage as a Husky with 15 kills.
The Huskies will open the 2015 regular season on Friday, Aug. 28 when they host Hartford, Rhode Island and Syracuse for the UConn Invite. Opening day of the tournament will take place at the University of Hartford and matches held on Aug. 29 will be held in Storrs at Gampel Pavilion.
