STORRS, Conn. – On Friday, September 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2, the University of Connecticut Volleyball team will host its third annual Dog Pound Challenge in Guyer Gym, sponsored by John Gagnon’s Pet resort.
The Dog Pound Challenge features three other programs that will make the visit to Storrs for a full weekend of volleyball – the Iona Gaels, LSU Tigers and Hartford Hawks.
Admission is free on both days and updates can be found @UConnVB on Twitter or via the Game Tracker links that can be found HERE.
Though it’s a volleyball tournament, the Dog Pound Challenge is about more than just the on-court matches. In conjunction with the Sigma Alpha Sorority, the UConn volleyball program looks to make a difference in the animal community.
Donations will be accepted on both days of the tournament, but can also be submitted by visiting: http://uconnhuski.es/dpdonations. The goal this year is to raise $2,000 for local animal shelters. UConn encourages everyone to donate, if they are able, for this crucial cause.
On Sept. 2, Wings of Freedom Animal Rescue will have a table set up outside of the Guyer main entrance so fans can see animals for adoption from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Swing by to play with the animals or potentially bring one home!
The Huskies open up home action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. against the Gaels, before taking on LSU in a 7:00 p.m. nightcap. During the UConn and LSU match, fans will receive an exclusive Dog Pound Challenge t-shirt! UConn will round out its tournament play on Saturday, in a 2:00 p.m. matinee against Hartford.
Come support the Huskies in their matches, but most importantly, support the local animal shelters to help provide the best possible treatment for all animals in their care.
