Volleyball Volunteers At Annual "Kids Who Tri Succeed" Event

Aug. 24, 2015

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team student-athletes, coaching staff members and support staff took time out of their preseason schedule to volunteer for the "Kids Who Tri Succeed" Children's Triathlon at the Bicentennial Pond and Mansfield Middle school on Saturday.

"Kids Who Tri Succeed" is a USAT-sanctioned triathlon for children ages 4-to-14. Now in its 10th year, the event is dedicated to teaching kids the importance of fitness and how to effectively work towards a fitness goal. The event draws children from the local area as well as participants from New York and Massachusetts.

Participant check-in ran from 8-8:45 a.m. with the race officially kicking off at 9:30 a.m. Members of the team spent the morning encouraging competing children and serving as course supervisors.

“It was a great opportunity for our team to get out into the community and participate in such a great event,” head coach Kris Grunwald said. “It also gave us the chance to do something fun with the kids and be role models for staying active.”
