STORRS, Conn. – Junior libero Kennedy Arundel has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, following her All-Tournament Team selection at the St. John’s Invitational.
Arundel, the first Husky this season to garner the major conference award, helped UConn to a 2-1 performance this weekend. The junior notched a team-high 65 digs in the tournament, including a season-best 29 digs in a 3-2 loss to Sacramento State Friday afternoon. Additionally, she tacked on three assists and two service aces in the contest.
In the teams’ 3-1 win against New Hampshire on Friday night, Arundel lead all Huskies with 19 digs, while adding a .219 hitting percentage for UConn.
The squad concluded their weekend with their first three-set sweep of the season against St. John’s on Saturday afternoon. Arundel helped the Huskies to their second straight win of the fall after turning in a 17 dig performance and a season-best .301 hitting percentage.
The libero has played all 12 sets for UConn thus far and is boasting a team-high 65 digs and 5.42 digs per set, while only posting one reception error. So far in 2017, the junior owns three assists and two service aces.
The Huskies will open home action next weekend as part of the program's third annual Dog Pound Challenge. The squad will welcome LSU, Iona and Hartford to Guyer Gym Friday, September 1 through Saturday, September. 2. For more information, check out the tournament page here.
