PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) earned UConn’s first weekly award from the BIG EAST this season, as she was named to the Honor Roll on Monday (September 5) after leading the Huskies to the 2011 UConn Toyota Classic Championship.
Kirk, who was named the UConn Toyota Classic MVP, collected a team-high 35 kills and 20 digs over the weekend, including her second double-double of the season in the tournament finale against Binghamton. She had a team-best 10 kills in the match against Howard, while she also recorded a season-best .529 hitting percentage.
On the season, Kirk leads the Huskies with 71 kills through six matches played, and is third on the team with 42 digs. She ranks second in the BIG EAST standings, averaging 4.18 kills per set.
The Huskies will continue their four-match home stand Tuesday (September 6), when they host Sacred Heart in a 7:00 p.m. contest. UConn is coming off a 3-0 weekend, as the Huskies defeated Holy Cross, Howard and Binghamton en route to the 2011 UConn Toyota Classic Championship.
Along with the team crown, three individuals also brought home accolades, as Kirk, Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) were named to the All-Tournament Team. Tuesday’s match will be just the second contest between the two schools, as UConn won the first match-up, 3-0 during the 2008 season.
