STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's volleyball team will make its first-ever national television appearance this season, with the Oct. 27 contest vs. Louisville at Gampel Pavilion being broadcast live on ESPNU. Due to this, game time has been pushed up by an hour to 1 p.m.
"We are excited to have this opportunity to be on national television," said UConn head coach Holly Strauss-O'Brien, the 2012 BIG EAST Co-Coach of the Year. "It is great exposure for our sport, for our program, and for the University of Connecticut."
The match-up is one of two American Athletic Conference games recently picked up by the network, as ESPNU will also carry Central Florida's visit to Louisville on Oct. 13. UofL and UCF were picked as the top two finishers in the 2013 Preseason American Coaches' Poll, while UConn came in at third.
Louisville went 30-4 and won the BIG EAST last season, and is currently ranked at No. 17 in the most AVCA National Coaches' Poll. The Cardinals have gotten off to a 1-1 start in 2013, defeating Syracuse before falling at then-No. 2 Penn State last weekend. UConn is currently 2-2 after sweeping Hartford in its home opener on Tuesday.
The Huskies and Cardinals met once last season, a regular season victory for UofL on Oct. 14, 2012. Connecticut has failed to defeat Louisville in nine tries all-time, but will have a pair of attempts this season, visiting the KFC YUM! Center on Nov. 27 in addition to the October match at Gampel.
UConn will host the UConn Classic this weekend, beginning Friday, Sept. 6 and continuing on Sept. 7. Albany, Northeastern and Pittsburgh are set to participate in the annual tournament held at Gampel Pavilion.
