HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Connecticut volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when it opens play at the Dartmouth Tournament in Hanover, N.H. The Huskies will battle West Virginia on Saturday at 5 p.m. before challenging Dartmouth on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Connecticut (4-2) enjoyed a successful weekend of play, taking the championship at its inaugural Dog Pound Challenge tournament. The Huskies were led by impressive play from senior Immanuella Anagu (Culver City, Calif.) who averaged 2.40 kills/set and a .511 hitting percentage through the squad’s three matches. She was also impressive on defense, tallying 16 total blocks.
Three Husky players notched double-doubles during the tournament, starting with junior Jade Strawberry (Tallahassee, Fla.) with a career-high 15 kills and 14 digs against Bryant. Classmate Rebecca Rivera (Mississauga, Ontario) posted 20 assists and 10 digs while sophomore Kenya Cason (Columbus, Ohio) added 11 kills and 13 digs against James Madison.
Saturday’s match against the Mountaineers will be the 20th time the two teams have met on the court. The two programs last faced off in 2011, with the Huskies coming away with a four-set victory. UConn holds a 16-3 advantage in the all-time series. West Virginia has a 2-4 record thus far, paced by Dzen Hadzisehovic who is averaging 2.93 kills/set.
When the Huskies square off against the Big Green on Sunday, it will mark fourth-ever meeting between the squads, after UConn swept Dartmouth in 2013. The Big Green is looking for its first win of the 2015 season behind the efforts of Paige Caridi as she tops the team with 2.89 kills/set.
